Rocky (Hindi, 2005/06)

Started in the middle of 2005 got delayed and was finally released in November end. It starred Zayed Khan, Isha Shrawani , Minisha Lamba, Rajath Bedi, Sarath Babu, Smita Jaykar.

Music by Himesh Reshmayya was a big hit.

It is about the revival of an angry young man played by Zayed who gave a brilliant performance.
The producers were Shyam Bajaj and Narendra Bajaj who were also my producers for Love 14 years ago. Life’s pre-determined moments….Haha!

Asthram (Telugu, 2005/06)

Shooting for this film started in late 2005 and got released in July 2006. It starred the son of Shri. Mohanbabu, Vishnu. It was produced by the acclaimed audio-man, Raju Hirwani and music by S.A. Rajkumar.

This film was inspired by a Hindi film, Sarfarosh. Jackie Shroff played a brilliant cameo for the first time in Telugu.

Jeshta (Kannada, 2004)

This film brought together the same producer and team of Kadamba to make a family film this time. Music was by S.A.Rajkumar.

Similar to the first film, it was also a remake of a Malayalam film. The story was of a hero and his brothers. It had a gripping screenplay.

Bhathrathiri Ramudu (Telugu, 2004)

Starring grandson of the legendary N.T.Rama Rao, this film had a very unusual script.

It was the story of a simple man who is used by a foreign NRI girl to ward off evil in her marriage astrological chart. How the simpleton Ramudu, goes through to win back his wife, even to the extent of going to Europe, is the crux of the story.

A very interesting plot with some good music.

Kadamba (Kannada, 2004)

I’ve always wanted to work with Vishnuvardhan, a very versatile actor. He is a very stylish actor and has been in the industry for a very long time. Co-starring him was Bhanu Priya, an excellent actress in her own right.

Music was by Deva, produced by Babu, photography by Ramesh Babu.

The film was a take off from old Sivaji Ganesan’s classic “Thangapadakam” and Dilip Kumar’s “Shakthi”. It was a mix of both.

The story revolved around a father, wife and their estranged son. The father, a very honest police officer, often had to fight battles on principle with his own son. The drama also captures the gamut of emotions his wife goes through in the family.

Raghavendra (Telugu, 2003)

The film was produced by G.V.G.Raju and Srinivas Raju with music by Mani Sharma.

Prabhaas, who is a very popular actor today in Andhra Pradesh played the main lead. This was his second film and he gave a very confident performance.

It was a very modern story of a youth with a violent attitude. Due to his reckless temperament his parents put him in an ashram.

It was a very successful film which ran for 100 days in many centres.

Iti Maa Ashokgadi Love Story (Telugu, 2002)

The film was produced by Nimbus. Music was by Anand Milind. It was a modern love story with all new artistes.

It was edited by Venkatesh Marthand with photography by Pratap.

The film had a very unusual narrative. We all know and understand that friendship between people in college does not necessarily continue after college years. People grow apart with their careers and lives and not many stay in touch. This story is about those few friends who remain in touch with each other almost forever.

It has been five years since college, each have become lost in their respective careers. Nevertheless a group of friends in the story remember their close friend Ashok, a popular person who they all looked upon as their hero. Ashok has been missing from their lives since college. They get together often and talk about their great times in college, love between Ashok and Kanchana, and also Ashok’s absence in their lives.

The story alternates between past and present from this point. One fine day, surprisingly, they find Ashok working as a car driver to some small time musician. They all reunite to talk about old times when Ashok tells his life-story and how his relationship with Kanchana ended abruptly.

The friends who were the real architects in Ashok and Kanchana’s relationship earlier decide to find her and make Ashok’s love story successful. They finally trace her, only to find that she is already engaged with marriage in the offering.

Meanwhile, Ashok’s neighbour, a dance choreographer called Sweta, falls in love with him. Realising that Ashok and Kanchana’s love story is doomed forever, the friends help Ashok and Sweta to get together.

Then one of life’s paradoxes manifests itself. Ashok gets his first opportunity to sing only to find that the director of the video is none other than Kanchana’s fiancé, Kanchana as the costume designer and Sweta as the choreographer. Four of them get into a plane and reach Bangkok for the shoot. What happens and how it all ends is suspense reserved for those who wish to see the film!

Baba (Tamil, 2002)

It was one of the biggest hyped films of that time. It was also my fourth film with super star. It was produced and written by Rajni Sir himself. A.R.Rahman was the music director, Chota was the cameraman, G.K was the art director.

It was a very unusual story, with a mystical element in it.

Baba was a non-believer. He used to smoke, drink and get into street brawls. But his mother and uncle knew that Baba was no ordinary kid, his birth was in fact a divine one. One day a temple elephant crossing the street notices Baba with a strange hand posture. The elephant retraced its steps and blesses him. Everybody is shocked by the incident except for his mother and uncle. In the course of events Baba falls in love with Chamundeshwari (played by Manisha Koirala). Her father, a renowned astrologer is very curious and requests Baba’s mother to show him his horoscope. His curiosity turns into amazement as he has never seen such a horoscope and spells out all the future in store for him.

Events manifest themselves as predicted. Baba has a strange meeting with Mahavatar Babji, a great saint, and his life is transformed from that point. He is given 7 blessings which he could use as he wants to. At first Baba does not think greatly of his boons. But slowly he realises that he is a man with God-like powers. Word spread around and greedy people from politics, thirsty for power, start luring him towards them. When Baba refuses to join their side they decide to use muscle power. How he overcomes this complication and danger and what he decides about his future completes the story.
