Aaha (Tamil, 1997)
Produced by Goodnight Mohan of Shogun Films, it starred a new cast of actors in lead roles of the film. Music was by Deva and dialogues by ‘Crazy’ Mohan.
It was a fun film, a family entertainer, set within the backdrop of a typical Brahmin upper class family.
It’s portrays the growing generation gap between an old fashioned father and today’s modern youth. Throughout the film, the father ‘Pepsi’ Parusuram, never comes to terms with his young son Sriram and keeps abusing him to be a good-for-nothing fellow. Sriram strangely also has a knack of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and many a time takes the blame of others on himself. Thus he makes his father hate him more.
In one such instance, Sriram takes his elder brother, Raghu’s serious blame upon himself and puts a brave face facing a tragedy to save his sister’s marriage. Parusuram who hated his youngest son so much transforms to love him the most. He understands that behind the modern outlook of today’s youth there lies a heart of a good human being. Finally it becomes an eye opener for the father and the whole family on the verge of collapse, to reunite.
I received the best comment from Super star Rajnikant. He said, “Suresh, forget your films like Baasha, Annamalai, Sathya and others, Aaha is your masterpiece”. He was so excited for me. I would always cherish those words. Thank you Rajni Sir.

Respected Sir,
I am a teaching faculty in Film and tv institute of Tamil Nadu handling the subjects related to film Direction. Aaha is an excellent script with a smooth flow, strong characterisations, realistic situations blended with comedy. The structure of the film was very tight. I used to make my students to do the script analysis and character study of this film. The technicalities have been very excellently blended which reflected the theory of Grand Syntagma by David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson in the book named An introduction to Film Art – a book on film analysis. This film has proved that cinema is Directors medium as told by Charlie Chaplin.

Thank you very much Nivedhitha. I am very happy to note that you have been using Aaha for you film study in your institute. I would be happy to do films like Aaha again. Many times I have discussed the same with crazy Mohan also and he too keeps telling about the overwhelming response he had got for Aaha when he went for his shows abroad. God willing it would happen soon. Thank you again

Thank you Karthick for your reponse on AAHA. There have also been sensitive films like AMMA and VASUNDHARA in telugu which were highly aprreciated. I have also tried tackling different themes but then when films like BAASHA, ANNAMALAI, SATHYA come, you are caught in that wave.

Thank you. AAHA is a film closest to my heart. Yes Crazy Mohan dialogues were a highlight, but so also the brilliant performances by Bhanu Priya, Raghuvaran, Vijaykumar, Delhi Ganesh, Sri Vidya – and also some excellent sets and camerawork. Its a perfect harmony of team work.
